CExplain the technologies used in digital electronics and the main circuits used for processor and memory design. Explain in some detail a modern microprocessor and how it can be connected to the other units to build a computer system.
>Introduction to digital electronics:
-gates and voltage levels
-technologies: bipolar and TTL
-IC classification: SSI, MSI, LSI, VLSI
>Circuit types:
-multiplexers
-decoders
-ALU, simple 4 function
-shifter
-clocks
-memory circuits: ROM, PROM, EPROM, EEPROM
>Microcomputers
Study the pin-out of a commonly used microprocessor that represents current technology and classify the function of the pins in terms of:
-address and data lines
-interrupt control: maskable and non-maskable priority
-memory and I/O control
-bus control - bus request and acknowledge
-instruction queue (cache) control
-miscellaneous: power, ground, reset etc.
>Explain how the microprocessor is connected to memory and I/O unit to perform read and write operations.
