01 Introduction


1 Introduction  
1.1 This publication contains details of the following qualifications:

Certificate in Computing (CIC) (Equivalent NZQA Level 3 qualification)
Diploma in Information and Communications Technology L5 (Equivalent NZQA Level 5 qualification)
Diploma in Information and Communications Technology L6 (Equivalent NZQA Level 6 qualification)
National Diploma in Business Computing (NDBC) (Equivalent NZQA Level 7 qualification)

1.2 This publication also contains the regulations for the award of the Personal Computer Drivers Licence (PCDL), which is a subset of the DipICT L5.

1.3 A review has been carried out in accordance with Section 4.1 of this document, which requires a complete review of the contents of this document at least once every two years. The previous edition was introduced at the beginning of 2003. This edition is the result of a revision undertaken in 2004 (for introduction in 2005) with the following specific objectives:

> To incorporate new material to keep the contents abreast of the rapid developments in the New Zealand and international computing and information technology industry.
> To review the structure of the qualifications.
> To correct inconsistencies and errors.

1.4 The validity of the regulations contained in the tenth edition has been extended to December 2007 in recognition of the quality assurance processes involved in approving and registering changes to programmes within member institutions. This extension does not apply to the content of module prescriptions.The modules contained in Appendices D and E of this edition, both revised and new, are valid from December 2004.
