The National Advisory Committee on Computing Qualifications (NACCQ) plans to include this qualification in the 9th edition of the ìNew Zealand Polytechnic Qualifications in Business Computingî due for publication in November 2002.

Applicants may come from a wide range of backgrounds. Three significant categories will be: - School leavers who do not have sufficient qualifications for tertiary programmes starting at level 5. - People in the paid or unpaid workforce who are seeking a change of vocation - Unemployed people seeking training for employment

There are no formal academic criteria for entry

The CIC is expected to be a single semester qualification, from 16-18 weeks in duration.

It is planned for people who have no previous computing skills wishing to gain an understanding of the basic computer concepts with the intention of gaining some computing skills, taking further programmes or gaining computer related employment.
