NACCQ Communication Needs Survey
Krassie Petrova, AUT
The Survey was carried out at the 13th Annual NACCQ Conference (July 200, Wellington). Seventy completed forms were received, representing 30 New Zealand polytechnics. The diagram below shows the role distribution of respondents:

Six questions were dedicated to the perceived information needs of staff and students. The table below summarises the percentage of positive responses (“Strongly Yes” and “Yes”):

Most academic staff wished to see the Blue Book on the NACCQ Web site, and managers said they needed a diagram, or a summary of programme prerequisites - to be used by students and by employers.

Roughly 50 percent of the surveyed members were acquainted with NACCQ publications. The Blue Book alongside with the PC Drivers License were the most popular, and the most useful were the Blue book and the NACCQ Employer’s Booklet. Many suggestions on how to improve the look and the usability of NACCQ publications were received – with a focus of making them look more professional.

An overwhelming majority of members (89 percent) said that they did not have a problem with interpreting the various entrance requirements criteria as explained in NACCQ publications.

Members suggested 46 different names for the collection of educational institutions represented by NACCQ - among them “Comploy”, “e-Teach”, and the innovative “NACCQ PUNIS”. Five of the suggested names contained NACCQ as a part of the name.

And finally, 81 percent of the respondents had already visited the NACCQ Web site, and came up with 30 different suggestions on what to add, change, improve: ranging from “Please redesign” to “Add pages in other languages”.

The full text of the survey report was forwarded to NACCQ Executive and to the NACCQ working groups for further action. Most of the recommendations about the NACCQ Web page have been considered in the design of our new-look Web page.

And finally, the Communications Working Group wants to say a hearty “Thank you” to all who participated in the survey and took their time to answer the questions.
