Programme Managers’ Survey – Results
Garry Roberton
The results of the survey posted 17 October 2000 follow:

There were 9 responses from the 23 polytechnics emailed. The tasks below are ranked in order of importance; ie most important to least important, based on an average of the nine responses received for each task.

1. Pastoral care
2. Student selection/recruitment
3. Leadership of academic staff
4. Programme content review and maintenance and Programme development (equal weighting)
5. Marketing
6. Other as specified: Research, timetabling requests, and checking data

The responses to the second question; "Where do your Programme Managers/Leaders appear in your organisation's structure", indicated that in all cases PMs are in the third layer down; eg CEO...HoD....PM. They are teaching staff who are given PM responsibilities with a time allowance and, as indicated in two instances, are paid a special responsibilities allowance.

Thanks to those who participated.
