Bay of Plenty Polytechnic – introducing a computing degree

Nick Wallingford

From 2003, Bay of Plenty Polytechnic will offer the UNITEC Bachelor of Computing Systems degree in Tauranga. This three-year degree provides a sound basis in information technology followed by specialisation in either technical computing or systems development. This degree, designed and first offered by UNITEC, is now also offered at Waiariki (Rotorua) and EIT (Hawkes Bay).

Content: The Bachelor of Computing Systems is an applied computing qualification which provides grounding in technical and theoretical concepts in the first year, and concentrates on technical computing and systems development at higher levels. There is a strong emphasis on the practical nature of these subjects, with theory introduced to support and clarify practice.

Preferred Entry: B Bursary or a certificate at Level 3 or higher
The Bachelor of Computing Systems (BCS) will be jointly awarded with UNITEC
Dates/Duration: 3 years full-time study or equivalent part-time
