UNITEC to Offer New Zealand's First Professional Doctorate in Computing

Associate Professor Donald Joyce

The DComp programme begins in February 2003 and consists of three courses and a 240 credit thesis. The three courses are:
* Critical Issues in Professional Practice
* Research Development
* Advanced Scholarly Enquiry
and can be completed in one year full time or two years part time. Classes are held at weekends and supplemented by e-learning resources. The thesis can be completed in two years full time or
four years part time.

Admission requirements are:
at least three years experience in a responsible position in the computing profession (could include lecturing) plus one of the following:
a) master's degree in computing or similar discipline with first or second class honours or equivalent
b) four year honours degree in computing or similar discipline with A- average and a research project
c) bachelor's degree in computing or similar discipline plus substantial industry reports or other research publications equivalent to a or b.
