WINTEC News

Garry Roberton

There have been some very exciting developments at Wintec over recent months and some that relate in particular to the Department of Information Technology.
Of special interest to our education colleagues will be two senior appointments.

Wintec has appointed a new CEO, Mark Flowers, who has for the past 6 years been Chief Executive of Hawke’s Bay District Health Board. Mr Flowers takes up his appointment in Hamilton on October 7 2002.

The Department of Information technology has appointed Dr Christo Portgieter to the position of Head of Department. Christo is currently with the Technikon Pretoria and takes up this new role on November 1 2002.

The IT Department has this year also developed a number of very interesting and diverse programmes that cover multi modal delivery, international student needs, and capturing professional qualifications within our existing curricula.

Each of these programmes is designed to meet the needs of a particular target student group;

1 Units 2797 online for those students still at school who wish to embark on tertiary level study and access the STAR funding mechanism,
2 CCIT and CAE for those international students that want to progress through to degree level study and who need to invest a year in language and IT foundation courses
3 Imbedding the CISCO modules in Dip ICT levels 5 and 6 to prepare students for the CCNA exams
