Award Winners from Otago Polytechnic
Sandy Wilson
The 3rd year Database class of 2000 in the Bachelor of Information Technology degree, taught by Dr Samuel Mann have been awarded the very prestigious APNZ Award for Excellence (Student). Two awards are made each year to students in recognition of outstanding achievement both academically and in contributing to the life of their institution. The students worked as a group to meet a brief provided by the Dean of Faculty of Art and Technology, Dr Graham McGregor, to develop a web-based database for Otago Polytechnic staff research. This project was also profiled in a poster presentation at the NACCQ Conference in July 2000, and won the award for best poster.

Terry Smith, 3rd year Bachelor of Information Technology student was awarded the Microsoft/APNZ Technology in Education Award (Student) for a project that the judges commented as being "of a high quality, had a high level of usefulness and made good use of Microsoft products." Terry's project was for a timetabling spreadsheet using Excel that has been used in the Commerce Department at Otago Polytechnic for room timetabling of several programmes for 2000.
